Apicectomy
An apicoectomy is a minor surgical dental procedure performed when a root canal treatment has failed and reinfection occurs at the tip of a tooth’s root. During the procedure, the dentist or endodontist removes the infected tissue along with the tip of the tooth root (the apex) and then seals the end of the root to prevent further infection. This microsurgical procedure is typically done under local anesthesia and is considered a last resort before tooth extraction. Apicoectomy helps save the natural tooth and relieve pain caused by persistent infection or inflammation.
